Master Bike Plan for Spokane

Critical Areas Ordinance

Spokane County’s Critical Areas Ordinance is for the protection of wetlands, fish and wildlife habitats, geologically hazardous areas and critical aquifer recharge areas. There is a Draft 2007 Update to this crucial environmental ordinance, that is available online and in paper at the Downtown Library. Proposition 1 on the Ballot

The March 11 Special Election covers various tax districts, depending on where you live in the county.  Proposition 1 is a vote on one-tenth of one-percent sale use tax for Juvenile Detention Facilities and Jails.  This is not the same tax to be used to build a new jail, according to this news release from the county, which clarifies the ballot language. - Spokane Government Librarian


Pedestrian and Bicycle Accidents

The Spokane Regional Transportation Council has a link to a new Washington State database that shows pedestrian and bicycle accidents in Spokane. There are also map versions of the reports that are easier to read; you get more of an idea of the dangerous intersections for these alternative modes of transportation. - Spokane Government Librarian


Mayor’s State of the City Address

Mayor Mary Verner has published her State of the City Address.  According to the press release, the Mayor “talked about plans around her five priorities: public safety, community quality of life, infrastructure, sustainable economic growth, and leadership and administration.”  If you have cable television, you can watch her give her speech on City Cable 5 several times this month.

VoIP Subscribers & 911 Calls

Tech-savvy users of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as their only telephone source may have problems with using the 911 emergency phone system. There can be problems with routing to the right answering center, callers may be directed to a non-emergency number, or the caller’s contact information may not show up for the 911 operator.
