Friday, February 1, 2008 – 1:09 pmTech-savvy users of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as their only telephone source may have problems with using the 911 emergency phone system. There can be problems with routing to the right answering center, callers may be directed to a non-emergency number, or the caller’s contact information may not show up for the 911 operator. I really had two questions. The first is in yuor opinion which VOIP service is the best? Also do you have to have a DSL or cable like comcast? And lastly, is there a wait to be connected and also is there shotty coverage as to city or rural coverage?

We can’t comment on VoIP service since we don’t support that here at the library. We do have one book in our catalog about VoIP, with another on order, which may give you some information. It looks like Qwest offers DSL and VoIP support, so you should contact them about your later questions, while Comcast can answer your questions about cable internet.

We are using the open-source WordPress blog software - http://wordpress.org/ - which is downloaded into our own style sheet templates.
