Wrong Addresses and Stimulus Checks

Some people were eligible for a Stimulus Check this year but haven’t received it yet because of a wrong address. Taxpayers who may be due a stimulus check must update their addresses with the IRS by Nov. 28. Stimulus checks must be sent out by Dec. 31. To check the status of a stimulus check and get instructions on how to update an address, go to the IRS Web site and click on “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?” or call 866-234-2942.


Veterans Day, November 11

Veterans Day, November 11 : Resources include a History of Veterans Day from the Department of Veterans Affairs.    For statistics, try www.va.gov/vetdata.     See also the Military Links on SPL’s Federal Government Resources list. Students and Teachers may want to try the VA Kids site. Find Memorials and Monuments for Veterans on USA.gov. Search for burial locations of veterans and their families in the National Gravesite Locator.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) administers and enforces the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). The duties of the FEC are to disclose campaign finance information, to enforce the provisions of the law such as the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee the public funding of Presidential elections. Voter Information

Voter Information from the Spokane County Elections Office
Ballots may be mailed in or dropped off. Mailed ballots must be postmarked no later than November 4, 2008. A first class postage stamp is required if ballots are mailed.
Stamps are not required at drop-off sites or in Ballot drop boxes. There are 19 drop boxes in all, including the ones that have been installed outside all public libraries in Spokane County. Ballots dropped in drop boxes will not be accepted after 8:00 pm on Election Day.
Voter Service Centers are open Election Day only from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm to drop off ballots, Get Replacement Envelopes, Vote a Provisional Ballot, Use an Accessible Voting Unit, and to Get Answers to Voting Questions. United States Department of Homeland Security

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a Cabinet department of the U.S. federal government with the responsibility of protecting the U.S.A. from terrorist attacks and responding to natural disasters.
Ready.gov is the DHS site the provides information to encourage Americans to prepare themselves, their families and their communities in event of an attack or a disaster.


Dinosaur National Monument

Dinosaur National Monument protects a large deposit of fossil dinosaur bones. This park has roads and hiking trails that offer historical sites, cool box canyons, and stunning views of dramatic river canyons.  There are interesting and pleasant campgrounds within the park.   Whitewater rafting on the Green and the Yampa Rivers are a popular way to experience the remote canyon areas at Dinosaur National Monument.

Where Americans Can See Where Their Money Goes: USAspending.gov. The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 requires a single searchable website that provides citizens with easy access to government contract, grant and other award data. Choose the Contracts tab to search for data relating to all federal contracts. You can get a list of the Top 100 Recipients of Federal Contract Awards for FY 2008 or you can do Contractor searches or location searches. Choose the Assistance tab to search for information about federal assistance, including grants, loans, insurance, etc. You can get a list of Federal Assistance by state and by agency. You can select a list of Top 100 Recipients of Federal Assistance for FY 2008.
