I for one, don't appreciate the library having fire drills during business hours,(like the one they had today at around 2:30pm). If you feel the need to train your workers on drills, then do it on your own time, using your own people. I have important things to get done when I'm there!! And actually take them as seriously as we do, instead of ignoring them. (Such as filming during business hours, by news crews, and private citizens alike.) There's also a problem that may be even worse at the downtown branch, and that is security failing to prevent intoxicated men from harassing women, starting fights/arguements, and generally making it impossible to be able to enter the building without being concerned for your safety. In fact,I've had to call the police several times about this problem myself. When can we expect something to be done? Currently we are not able to expand hours at any other locations since our budget is set for all of 2008. The Spokane Public Library Board is committed to expanding hours at all locations. They prioritized the different options of which branch to expand. If funding were to become available we would next expand hours at the Hillyard branch which currently is only open 22.5 hours a week. It is the next most used library after Downtown, Shadle and South Hill. Also, our statistics show that many Hillyard customers do not use other branches as much as other branches' customers do.
